France Pledges €2 Billion for Morocco’s High-Speed Rail Expansion

Morocco is slowly but steadily advancing the Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed train project. It is receiving significant financial support from France.
Important steps have been taken in recent months, particularly on the financial front. Four agreements, including one on the financing of the Kénitra-Marrakech line for 2 billion euros and the supply of 18 high-speed trains from the Alstom brand, as well as a maintenance and industrial compensation component, were signed during the recent visit of the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron to Morocco. These agreements are part of the Declaration on the "Reinforced Partnership of Exception" signed in October last year by the leaders of the two countries.
Exchanges took place on Thursday, December 26, 2024, between the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, and Christophe Lecourtier, the French Ambassador to Morocco, in order to strengthen bilateral ties in the railway sector. The two officials welcomed the quality of the cooperation relations between Morocco and France in the transport and logistics sectors, and explored ways to develop these relations. This meeting is part of the reinforced bilateral agreement signed in October last year between the two countries, aimed at developing cooperation relations in the railway field.
The Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed train project is divided into 11 sections, 6 of which have been awarded to Moroccan companies for a total value of 13.5 billion dirhams.
