In an interview on Aurélien Tchouameni’s YouTube channel, Kylian Mbappé looked back on his special relationship with Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi. Despite the stakes of this historic match for the Atlas Lions, the two players continued to chat throughout the game. "I think we did nothing but talk for an hour and a half," the striker confesses. They discussed the organization of their upcoming joint vacations or the presence of their respective families in the stands in Qatar.
However, the competition had instilled a slight tension between the two friends before kick-off. Achraf Hakimi had even sent a provocative message to his teammate: "You don’t want to talk to me too much today." The captain of the Blues clarifies, however, that this proximity in no way tarnished his competitive spirit in trying to beat his friend.
