According to the rules recalled by Service-Public, the housing must be occupied at least eight months per year, except in cases of professional obligation, health reasons, or force majeure. The CAF clarifies that housing assistance can be reviewed when the housing remains unoccupied for more than 122 days in a calendar year.

This rule may concern Moroccans in France who keep their apartment or social housing in France while spending long periods in Morocco. The risk is not the trip itself, but the fact that the subsidized housing is no longer genuinely occupied as a main residence.

Absences can also accumulate. A person who makes several trips to Morocco in a year must therefore account for the total time their French housing remains unoccupied. A prolonged absence during summer, followed by another stay later in the year, can eventually exceed the authorized limit.

In case of inspection, the CAF can request documentation to verify that the housing is properly occupied: bills, receipts, administrative documents, actual presence in the housing, or family situation. If the organization considers that the housing is no longer the main residence of the beneficiary, the aid can be suspended or recalculated.

Amounts already paid can also be claimed if the CAF determines that the APL was received wrongfully. This is why a prolonged departure to Morocco must be declared when the situation changes, particularly if the absence exceeds several months or if the housing is no longer genuinely used.
