France and Morocco Sign $10.8 Billion in Deals During Macron’s State Visit

French President Emmanuel Macron and his delegation were welcomed on Monday at the Rabat-Salé airport by King Mohammed VI accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Princesses Lalla Khadija and Lalla Meryem. Already economic fallout from this state visit.
On Monday, France and Morocco concretized their reconciliation at the royal palace by signing a series of agreements in multiple areas: Transportation, energy, water, education, video games, forest fire fighting... for a value of more than 10 billion euros ($10.8 billion), reports Reuters. In the field of Transportation, French companies have won several tenders launched by the National Railway Office (ONCF) for the extension of the Moroccan high-speed train from Kénitra to Marrakech, one of Morocco’s mega-projects in view of the 2030 World Cup.
Alstom will supply Morocco with 12 high-speed trains and an option for six more. In the renewable energy sector, the French groups Engie and EDF have also signed agreements. TotalEnergies has signed an agreement on green hydrogen. In the maritime sector, CMA CGM plans investments in a Moroccan port terminal (Nador West Med).
The French president is expected on Tuesday at the Moroccan Parliament where he will deliver a speech.
