Former Spanish Foreign Minister Defends Legality of Polisario Leader’s Entry into Spain

The former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, assured this Monday during her appearance that the entry into Spain of the leader of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, was done "in accordance with the law".
"Brahim Ghali’s entry was, in my view, made in accordance with the law. I hope the judge will soon reach the same conclusion," the former Foreign Minister told the press after appearing before Judge Rafael Lasala of the Zaragoza court in charge of the investigation into Ghali’s arrival in Spain in April.

The magistrate summoned González Laya after her former chief of staff, Camilo Villarino, also cited in this case, declared that he had received instructions from the former minister to facilitate Ghali’s entry into Spain, "in complete discretion", recalls EFE.

The leader of the Polisario Front arrived in Spain on April 18 on a medicalized plane from Algeria. He was then transferred by ambulance from the Zaragoza air base to a hospital in Logroño where he was admitted under a false identity. His entry into Spain provoked a serious diplomatic crisis with Morocco.
