Former Spanish Deputy Mayor Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Moroccan Youth

The High Court of Justice of Madrid has confirmed the conviction of the former deputy mayor of Palma, Rodrigo de Santos, to two years in prison for sexually abusing a young man of Moroccan origin in a shelter run by an NGO close to the Popular Party (PP).
In the decision to which El Diario had access, the judge rejected the appeal of Rodrigo de Santos against the decision handed down in October by the provincial court of Madrid, considering the conclusions of this court as "consistent and reasonable".
On November 8, 2016, the accused took the young man of Maghrebi origin to his home in the town of Alcobendas and sexually assaulted him. The Court has evidence of harassment of Rachid, the victim, to whom De Santos sent messages on WhatsApp.

The former PP leader of the Balearics had been working in the NGO since 2015 and since October 2016, he was in charge of the social reintegration program for detainees. It was in this capacity that he abused his power to force the Moroccan and another young man of Dominican origin to have sexual relations with him, the prosecutor argued in the indictment.
The prosecution had accused De Santos of eight sexual assaults on young people from the center and for which it had requested twenty years in prison against him. As for the NGO, it has been convicted as a subsidiary civil liability.
