Former Spanish Defense Minister Backs Morocco’s Sahara Autonomy Plan as ’Most Credible’ Solution

More support for Morocco. Former Spanish Defense Minister José Bono has supported his country’s new position on the Sahara, considering the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the "most credible and reasonable" solution to definitively settle the issue.
Speaking on the "La Sexta" channel, Bono stated about the Moroccan autonomy plan that "Morocco’s proposal is the most credible and reasonable, and this is what has been recognized by powers such as the United States, Germany, France and Spain."
Referring to Spain’s recent change of position on the Sahara, the former intelligence services official stated that "frankly, this decision has been a success of the government", because what the population concerned wants is "to live and not to starve." And he specified that the Moroccan autonomy initiative is "undoubtedly in the interest of the populations of the Sahara, who need solutions, not resolutions."
Furthermore, the former official warned against the theses of a "radicalism that benefits no one, except the Polisario Front, which does not function democratically." It is important for Spain to "come to an understanding with a good neighbor and a good friend like Morocco," he concluded.
