Former Moroccan Minister Warns Polisario Against Conflict with Morocco

If the Polisario dares to attack Morocco, "it will suffer a great defeat," warns Mohamed El Yazghi, former First Secretary of the Union of Socialist Forces (USFP) and former minister.
"The Royal Armed Forces have strong capabilities... and in the event of war, the Polisario will suffer a great loss and end up disappearing," said El Yazghi in an interview with Hespess. For the former minister, "war is not in the interest of the Polisario... " and its defeat "means a failure of Algeria’s policy".
The socialist leader also believes that Spain, which has "a responsibility" in this conflict, would benefit from recognizing "its historical mistake". "The Spanish government does not want normal relations with Morocco that are in the interest of the two countries, this confirms the lack of will of the Spanish leaders," he said, also recalling that with regard to the "liberated territories" mentioned by the Polisario, "the United Nations and its Secretary General agree that there is no military presence of the Polisario in these areas, but rather inside Algerian territory".
Regarding the controversy over the holding of African Lion 2021 in the Sahara, El Yazghi stressed that "it is not the first time that the US Marines have conducted maneuvers in the Sahara". These exercises, launched on Monday in Agadir by King Mohammed VI, will continue until June 18, 2021 in the regions of Agadir, Tifnit, Tan Tan, Mahbes, Tafraout, Ben Guerir and Kenitra, and involve the participation of several countries such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, Tunisia, Senegal, the Netherlands and Italy.
