Former Moroccan MP Gets Light Sentence in TikToker's Death Case

The former MP, former president of the urban commune of Béni Mellal, and also leader of the Mouvement Populaire party, involved in the death of a TikToker in his villa, benefits from a less severe sentence.

On Wednesday, the Béni Mellal Court of Appeal sentenced the former parliamentarian involved in the death of a TikToker during a party in his villa to one year in prison, much to the surprise of some observers who consider this sentence lenient given the seriousness of the charges. Abdelaziz Chraibi "will only serve eight months and could benefit from early release within two weeks, having been acquitted of certain charges and benefiting from extenuating circumstances," reports Assabah. Strangely, the judgments concerning the co-defendants are not available on the courts’ electronic portal, while the information relating to the verdicts handed down in other cases is accessible.

This case dates back to July 2024. Béni Mellal had been shaken by the death of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found in the villa of Abdelaziz Chraibi. The mother of the deceased had received a telephone call from two young women telling her that her daughter had fainted in the former MP’s home and had given her the address of the villa. At the scene, "I found my daughter lifeless, on the ground, surrounded by the two girls and the former deputy, who did not assist her by calling the emergency services," the mother of the deceased recounted, devastated by the tragic disappearance of her daughter.

The former MP and the other suspects were prosecuted for "aggravated human trafficking for sexual exploitation resulting in death, indecent assault with violence, possession of illicit substances and failure to assist a person in danger." After twelve hearings, the Béni Mellal Court of Appeal handed down its verdict on March 5.
