Former Moroccan MP Acquitted in Minor Rape Case, Convicted in Corruption Scandal

The Criminal Chamber of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of Fez acquitted the former MP and president of the commune of Oulad Tayeb, Rachid El Fayeq. He was accused of rape and indecent assault of a minor.
El Fayeq had been sentenced in the first instance to a term of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of 80,000 dirhams in July 2023, reports Al3omk.
The investigating judge of the court of first instance of Fez had decided to refer the case to the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal on the case of rape and human trafficking.
In the so-called "real estate mafia" case, El Fayeq and his co-defendants were found guilty of corruption, embezzlement of public funds and abuse of power by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Fez. The sentence was increased to eight years’ imprisonment and a fine of one million dirhams.
