Former AC Milan Prodigy Hachim Mastour Finds New Life in Moroccan Second Division

While he carried the hopes of football in Italy, Moroccan international Hachim Mastour, against all odds, has joined a second division club in Morocco and claims to be enjoying it.

The Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra, this is the second division club that has welcomed the player Hachim Mastour since the start of the season. Free from any contract after leaving Reggina a year ago, he decided to join this little-known club in Morocco, surprising more than one, especially since at his age, he has in his trophy cabinet, passages within prestigious clubs like AC Milan, PEC Zwolle, PAS Lamia, Reggina and Carpi, reports Foot Mercato.

The announcement of his transfer to a second division club in Morocco has provoked reactions from Internet users, who have mocked the downfall of a "over-publicized" player and presented as a football "crack" who has never been able to meet the expectations of his fans.

Apparently touched by the comments that his transfer to D2 has provoked, he felt the need to justify his choice. "When we set a goal, a dream as I have said before, we can sometimes see it as something distant. But we have to see the next step and not the finish line, and then we have to take that step. We always look to the future, to the end, we look at the length of the journey and we feel overwhelmed. But in reality, we have to tell ourselves: okay, I don’t have to worry, because it will come and at each step, we get closer to our dream [...] We all have dreams. I hope that we, the dreamers, will achieve our goals," he had explained.

A star in spite of himself, he had wanted to escape the spotlights focused on him by choosing to give up a sports career. Apparently the player could no longer stand a media-exposed life, preferring discretion. "I’ve always lived in the spotlight. [...] As I constantly say, I would just like to play football and be treated like a simple 23-year-old boy, who makes mistakes and is determined to improve every day in order to carve out a career at levels of sacrifice, humility and hard work."

This is why he chose a D2 club and in Morocco. An experience he considers a rebirth. In the first round of Botola 2, the attacking midfielder, who is also captain of the Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra, was one of the architects of his team’s victory over CJ Ben Guerir (3-1).
