Former Egyptian Soccer Star Apologizes for Wishing Injury on Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech

While he had previously stated that he wished the Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech would get injured, Ahmed Shobair has come to explain that it was just a clumsy remark on his part.
He had made a huge blunder by stating that he wished Hakim Ziyech would get injured because his team Ajax Amsterdam had eliminated Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. This happened on April 14.
"I wanted him to get injured, he eliminated us from the Champions League," were the words, on the air, of the consultant for the channel On sport, Ahmed Shobair, also a former Egyptian international and Al Ahly player. A slip that did not go unnoticed and earned him a flood of criticism.
But he retracted on Wednesday, also on the air on ON Sport, saying: "My words were misunderstood. It was just irony since I’m a Real Madrid fan. Hakim Ziyech remains a great player and I wish him good luck with his team and with the Moroccan national team."
And on his Twitter account, in a comment on the video where he apologizes, Shobair writes: "Hakim Ziyech is a source of pride for all of us and everything that is in an Arab star with high performance is a great joy for us."
