Football: After the final, the war of words escalates between Dakar and Morocco

The euphoria of the victory of the Lions of Teranga gives way to a legal battle between the sports authorities of Dakar and Rabat.

More than a week after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, the remarks made by Abdoulaye Fall, president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), have sparked a heated institutional controversy. During a celebration in his hometown of Bambey, the Senegalese leader openly accused the host country Morocco of exerting a hidden influence on the Confederation of African Football (CAF). "They control everything and decide everything," he stated, questioning the fairness of the competition.

This media outburst immediately provoked a backlash within the Kingdom. The Moroccan Bar Association (CAM) has officially reacted by announcing the seizure of the competent international bodies to denounce what it considers defamatory allegations. The Moroccan organization believes that these statements cross the threshold of mere sports criticism to venture into the realm of institutional slander. For the CAM, this questioning of the integrity of the CAF and Morocco constitutes a serious attack on the honor of the African sports authorities, especially since these remarks, according to them, are not based on any tangible evidence.

On a procedural level, the Moroccan Bar Association relies on a precise legal arsenal to bring the case before the FIFA Ethics Commission. The complaint invokes, in particular, Article 60 of the FIFA Code of Ethics and Article 43 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. These texts govern the duties of neutrality, loyalty and integrity of sports leaders. By seizing these bodies, the CAM intends to obtain sanctions against Abdoulaye Fall, arguing that his status as a senior official imposes strict restraint in order not to discredit the institutions of world football.
