Football: FIFA gives in to Morocco for the 2025 AFCON

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will take place in July of that year, just after the Club World Cup. After some tensions, FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) seem to have found common ground.
FIFA had proposed that the next AFCON be held in January 2025 or January 2026, a CAF executive board member told the media Yalla Koora. The Moroccan Federation, on the other hand, proposed to organize the AFCON in July 2025, more precisely from July 23 to August 21, just after the Club World Cup.
The FRMF believes that July is the ideal month to organize the 2025 AFCON because the stadiums under construction would be completed by April and it expects a strong presence of Moroccans living abroad. Due to the high temperatures in summer, the Moroccan Federation has proposed evening matches in the stadiums of Marrakech and Agadir.
The official date of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco will be known in June or July next year, following the CAF General Assembly.
