Football: a commanding victory takes Morocco to the brink of the World Cup

From the outset, Morocco sought to take the lead, but its dominance in the first half remained unproductive. Facing a well-organized Tanzanian team relying on counterattacks, Walid Regragui’s men lacked attacking efficiency. Youssef En-Nesyri was rarely found in good positions, while attempts to build play through Ismael Saibiri and Bilal El Khannouss failed to break the deadlock. Tanzania, for its part, was unable to capitalize on its few forays forward. The score was therefore 0-0 at halftime.

The match turned in the second half. Nayef Aguerd opened the scoring for Morocco in the 51st minute, finally converting his team’s superiority. Shortly afterward, Brahim Diaz converted a penalty in the 58th minute, allowing the Moroccans to establish a two-goal lead (2-0). Despite this advantage, Tanzania attempted to get back into the match, creating a clear opportunity in the 73rd minute, but Yassine Bounou intervened successfully.

In the final quarter of an hour, Morocco managed its lead while seeking to score a third goal, but without succeeding, while Tanzania continued to rely on quick counterattacks, also without further success. The final score remained 2-0.

With this victory, Morocco strengthens its position at the top of Group E with 15 points. Tanzania and Niger follow with 6 points. The Atlas Lions now need just one point to secure their participation in what would be their seventh World Cup, and their third in a row.
