Food Poisoning Outbreak in Tangier: 26 Workers Sickened by Street Vendor’s ’Saïkouk’

In Tangier, the consumption of "saïkouk", a barley semolina soaked in buttermilk, caused intoxication in about thirty workers.
According to Le360.ma, 26 construction workers in the Béni Mekada neighborhood were victims on Monday, July 22, 2019, of a collective intoxication after consuming "saïkouk" from a street vendor.
They were then admitted to the emergency room at Mohammed V Hospital. Of the 26 workers concerned, 4 are in critical condition. The other 22 have been allowed to go home.
According to the same source, this "saïkouk" intoxication is not an isolated case. Two days earlier, the members of an entire family were hospitalized after taking "saïkouk" on the beach of Achakkar.
