Food Poisoning Outbreak Hospitalizes 19 Students in Moroccan School

Nineteen students from a school group in Zoumi, in the province of Ouazzane, were victims of food poisoning on Wednesday after consuming sandwiches bought from a snack bar near their school.
According to the newspaper Assabah, the students felt stomach pains shortly after eating the sandwiches. Alerted by the school, the civil protection and royal gendarmerie services quickly arrived on the scene. The students were urgently transferred to the Abou al qasim al Zahrawi hospital for treatment.
The owner of the incriminated snack bar was arrested and an investigation was opened to determine the exact causes of the intoxication. The initial investigations indicate that the sandwiches could have been contaminated by the sauces used, in a context of high heat and possible non-compliance with the cold chain.
Fortunately, all the students were able to leave the hospital in the evening after their condition improved.
This incident is reminiscent of other cases of food poisoning that occurred in the province of Ouazzane or in Marrakech, where several people died after eating meals in a snack bar. The owner of this restaurant was arrested by the police and his trial should take place in the coming days.
