Fnideq Free Trade Zone Construction Resumes After COVID-19 Delay

Six months after the launch in June of the project to build the commercial free trade zone in Fnideq, the work had been suspended due, among other things, to the health crisis. Today, after two months of suspension and in the face of street pressure, the work will resume.
The announcement, in June, of the project to build a commercial zone in Fnideq had given hope to families hard hit by the situation of closing the border with Ceuta due to Covid-19. But with the health crisis, the implementation of the project has been delayed. In December, only six months after its start, the work had been suspended.
Two months later, the construction site will be able to resume. The work will continue in order to respect the initial deadline of one and a half years and to achieve the government’s objective of putting this free zone into service as early as the summer of 2021.
According to the Head of Government, Saadeddine El Otmani, the project aims to "create a new economic dynamic" and to bring great added value to the region which, before the closing of the borders, maintained a close relationship with Ceuta in terms of transit and commercial activity.
