Flights to Morocco’s Saidia Resort Canceled as Spanish Travelers Opt for Canary Islands

Undoubtedly, a first. Due to lack of passengers at Zaragoza airport, in northern Spain, it has been decided to cancel all flights to Morocco and, more precisely, the one to Oujda.
According to the local website Heraldo, tour operators Politours and Soltour have decided to cancel all scheduled flights for the next three months to Saidia, due to strong competition from other destinations and especially weak demand. "Customers have not requested this destination because when they want to go to a beach; they prefer to go to the Canary Islands," explain several travel agencies.
In total, 8 flights had been scheduled during the holidays, at a rate of one flight per week, between the months of July and September. These flights were to be operated by the airline Air Nostrum which is not canceling other destinations, particularly in Italy.
Even if the seaside resort of Saidia is suffering a symbolic setback, it will be able to count on many Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) who have become accustomed to going there during the summer holidays, as shown by this report from the 2m channel.
