US Firms Eye Morocco’s Legal Cannabis Market After New Law

Delegations representing two American industrial groups are expressing interest in Moroccan cannabis following the adoption of bill 13-21 relating to its legal use. They have organized a prospecting mission in the north of the kingdom.
Two delegations representing American industrial groups are currently on a prospecting mission in Morocco, reports La Map. They plan to meet with cannabis growers as well as civil society in these provinces. This interest of American industrialists in cannabis follows the adoption by the Council of Government of the bill on its legal use.
In a statement to la MAP, Mounir El Bouyoussfi, general manager of the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDN), said that this agency had drawn up an integrated program. The target? The 98 rural municipalities under the provinces concerned by cannabis cultivation and whose population reaches one million inhabitants. This program aims to pave the way for the legalization of cannabis cultivation for industrial and medical use.
In the early 2000s, several foreign investors had organized prospecting missions in these regions without investing in the cultivation or marketing of Moroccan cannabis. It remains to be seen whether this new prospecting mission will lead to a follow-up.
