Fire Disrupts Ferry Service for Moroccan Diaspora’s Summer Return

The "Marhaba 2023" operation to welcome Moroccans living abroad (MRE), which continues until September 15, is somewhat disrupted, due to the temporary suspension of the rotations of the ferry "Morocco Star". The origin of this suspension is a fire in the generator.
After a fire in the generator, the ship "Morocco Star" was towed to Gibraltar to carry out the necessary repairs, report Spanish media. As a result, the ship’s rotations have been interrupted for the time being. This will partially slow down the "Marhaba 2023" operation marking the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) to Morocco, which started on June 5.
Built in 1980, the "Morocco Star", of Danish origin, formerly known as "Prins Joachim" and "Prince" is operated by the company African Morocco Links (AML), "majority owned by Bank of Africa1 and minority owned by the Greek shipowner Attica." Its initial capacity of 2,300 people has been reduced to 1,000 passengers. Its garage can accommodate 210 vehicles and 625 linear meters.
