FIFA Eases Eligibility Rules, Paving Way for Munir El Haddadi to Join Morocco’s National Team

By amending its rules on changing sports nationality, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) now offers the opportunity for the young Sevilla player, Munir El Haddadi to wear the jersey of the Atlas Lions. A victory for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
FIFA rendered its verdict on Friday, September 18, at the end of its 70th congress held by videoconference from Zurich (Switzerland). The amendment easing the eligibility criteria for national team players with dual nationality was adopted by a majority of the congress members. This amendment is an initiative of the President of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa. With this amendment, any dual national player who has already represented his host country in an official match can change jerseys if he meets a certain number of criteria.
In 2014, Sevilla FC striker Munir El Haddadi had played for Spain for 13 minutes in an official match. The young player can now join the Atlas Lions squad. Good news for the Moroccan national team coach, Vahid Halilhodzic.
