FIFA Chief Proposes Africa Cup of Nations Shift to Quadrennial Format

The President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, proposed, on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Salé, that the periodicity of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) be reduced to four years instead of two.
"I propose to organize the Africa Cup of Nations every four years instead of every two years, to make it more commercially viable and attractive worldwide," said Gianni Infantino, during a seminar on the development of football competitions and infrastructure in Africa, organized in Salé in Morocco.
It remains to be seen whether this proposal will receive the approval of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and all the African football federations. The debate is open.
