Fiat Chrysler Merger Could Bring New Auto Plant to Morocco

The two French and Italian manufacturers, Peugeot PSA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), have recently announced their merger. This could lead to the construction of an Italian factory in [Morocco].
"Our relationship with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) dates back a very long time. Morocco has been associated in the sourcing of Fiat for a long time. Morocco’s strategy is to position itself as a serious player on the international automotive scene. I would not miss any opportunity to develop the business. We are discussing with one and the other. In this type of discussion, we must have the humility to learn, because each business has its own specificities."
These are the first statements of Moulay Hafid Elalamy (MHE), Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, questioned on this subject by Le360. For him, everyone has the obligation to take a step back.
"As a partner of the two groups, let’s not rush anything. We think that, in an alliance of this nature, we can bring a complementary element," he said. He also recalled that the factories of the French manufacturer are not running at full capacity in Europe, i.e. 46% of activity, according to figures from the LMC Automotive firm, cited by the French daily Les Echos.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy also admits that the Moroccan card is an additional competitiveness card for a manufacturer, as Morocco can bring added value to the Italians.
