Fez Launches Major Infrastructure Overhaul Ahead of 2025 Africa Cup

Major projects will soon be implemented to reduce traffic congestion in Fez and improve mobility within the city, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Fez is embarking on the development of its infrastructure. The Fez-Meknès Regional Council has announced an infrastructure development plan for the city, as part of the regional development program for the 2022-2027 period, it was learned. One of the projects to be carried out is the construction of underpasses worth 259 million dirhams. This project will help reduce traffic congestion in the city and improve mobility within Fez. This will contribute to strengthening the city’s attractiveness for both tourists and investors. This project will also open up new prospects for economic and tourism development, particularly with the city’s candidacy to host the 2025 Africa Cup and the 2030 World Cup, it is specified.
Another major project is the redevelopment of the famous Florence Square on Avenue Hassan II for 10.58 million dirhams. This square is expected to become a gathering place for football fans during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup. The redevelopment work on Florence Square will include the creation of new marble-clad fountains in its center with distinctive lighting, as well as the creation of green spaces and rest areas as well as play areas for young children. The work is scheduled to be completed in eight months.
