Fez Joins Global Network of Cities Fighting AIDS Epidemic

Fez is now part of the Global Network of Cities Most Committed to Fighting AIDS, called "Fast track cities". This is an approach aimed at accelerating local responses of cities to this disease.
The signing of the "AIDS-free city" declaration took place on Thursday, with the aim of allowing Fez to be part of this approach supported by four partners, including the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC), UNAIDS, UN-Habitat and the city of Paris.
This partnership aims to support priority cities in strengthening their response to this disease, in order to respect the commitments made in the Paris Declaration, signed by more than 300 cities and municipalities on December 1, 2014, to end this epidemic by 2030.
Fez followed in the footsteps of the cities of Rabat, Marrakech and Casablanca, by signing the "AIDS-Free City for Fez" charter, through its mayor, Driss El Azami Idrissi. According to the Director General of the Association for the Fight against AIDS (ALCS), Naoual Laaziz, the initiative is in line with the respect of commitments on the achievement of the 90-90-90 objectives.
The fight against HIV in Morocco has always had the support of political commitment at the highest level, said the representative of the Minister of Health, Ibtissam Khoudri. UNAIDS in Morocco, represented by Kamal Alami, indicated that Fez’s determination aims to make the city’s stakeholders responsible for promoting awareness, prevention, care, and the fight against discrimination.
Ending AIDS by 2030 is now possible if the world’s major cities act, the source insists.
