FBI Tip Leads to Arrest of Suspected Jihadist Planning Mass Shooting in Spanish Resort Town

Based on information provided by the FBI, specialized agents of the National Police and the Guardia Civil managed to arrest a jihadist who was planning a mass shooting on the beaches of Benidorm, a popular tourist destination.

On Wednesday, Fath Allah Benhachem Gharrass, a 23-year-old Spanish national of Moroccan origin, was arrested during an operation carried out by specialized agents of the National Police and the Guardia Civil in the Santa Eugenia neighborhood of Girona, just a few hours before another attack perpetrated in Algeciras, where another suspected Moroccan killed a priest in a church and stabbed a sacristan with a machete, reports lajioja.com.

Ismael Moreno, president of Central Investigating Court number 2 of the Audiencia Nacional, ordered the incarceration of Benhachem. The latter intended to film himself shooting bathers on the beaches of Benidorm, then publish the images.

Benhachem’s arrest was only possible thanks to information provided by the FBI to Spain. Their information played "an essential role in the identification and neutralization of this alleged terrorist," said the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. The domestic intelligence service presents the Moroccan national as a young radicalized individual affiliated with Daesh who excelled in proselytism. Benhachem was also known to be active on the Dark Web, the fully encrypted secret network used by criminals and offenders.
