Fatal Bus Crash in Spain Leaves 1 Dead, 35 Injured on Route to Morocco

Two buses transporting Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) collided in Moraleda de Zafayona, a municipality in the province of Granada, on Sunday, July 3, leaving one dead and several seriously injured.
The accident occurred at 6 a.m. on Sunday on the A-92, heading towards Malaga, reports Canarias7. The two buses came from Madrid and were transporting 101 people to Algeciras (Cadiz). Most of the passengers were foreigners, who were returning to Morocco as part of the Marhaba Operation 2022. The accident report shows one dead (the driver of one of the buses) and 35 injured. Among them, three minors aged 18 months, eight and eleven years old.
The accident was reported to 112, the Emergency Service number. According to sources from the health delegation of the Junta de Andalucía (region) in Granada, the minors received care in the pediatric emergency department of the San Cecilio clinic. Two adults were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Virgen de las Nieves neurotraumatology hospital. They are in serious condition. Nine other patients were treated at this hospital. One of them underwent surgery.
In total, 21 patients received care at the San Cecilio University Clinical Hospital. Among them, 17 with more or less serious injuries, aged between 15 and 62 years. A 70-year-old woman is awaiting surgery for a bone fracture. As for the unharmed people, they were transferred to a nearby hotel. The health services have deployed a care "team" in case they need to be treated throughout the day.
