Fatal Accident in Spain: Two Moroccan Seniors from France Struck by Multiple Vehicles on Busy Highway

Two Moroccans, an 81-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman, lost their lives in a traffic accident. They were hit by six vehicles after imprudently getting out of their car registered in France, which had broken down.
The two victims, of Moroccan origin, got out imprudently from the car registered in France in which they were traveling, which had broken down on the CM-42 (Los Viñedos motorway) connecting La Mancha to Toledo, a very busy section, the Civil Guard said, specifying that they were hit by six vehicles that could not avoid them.
The four occupants of the first car that hit the Moroccans, three women aged 41, 55 and 65, and a 49-year-old man, were taken to the Tomelloso General Hospital for anxiety attacks. They are safe and sound, it is assured. After the accident, which occurred on Friday night, the civil guards had to block traffic for an hour and a half to facilitate the work of the firefighters and the cleaning of the motorway. Traffic was fully restored afterwards.
The Civil Guard and other organizations such as the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) recommend, in case of breakdown and waiting for the assistance service, to stay in an area away from the road to avoid being run over or taking unnecessary risks and to wear a fluorescent vest. "If you cannot leave the vehicle safely, it is better to remain inside the vehicle with the seat belt fastened," they advise.
Between 2019 and 2020, 28 people were run over and killed getting out of their vehicle on a motorway.
