US Farmers Protest High Tariffs on Moroccan Fertilizers, Citing Cost Concerns

American farmers are fed up with the overtaxation of Moroccan fertilizers decided since last March by the International Trade Court.
These farmers, members of the National Corn Growers Association and four other associations, protest against the protectionist measures taken in favor of the American company Mosaic by the judicial body. Specifically, they denounce the taxation at more than 19% of fertilizers from Morocco, according to Maghreb Intelligence.

This decision by the Court seriously undermines the interests of American farmers who are forced to spend more money to obtain sufficient quantities of fertilizers. Conversely, the decision benefits the US giant Mosaic, which maintains a near-monopoly, going from 74% to 80% of market share.
The farmers have appealed the Court’s decision. A new court decision should therefore be made in 2022. In the meantime, the farmers are subject to the law of Mosaic, which has just closed two production units.
