Farm Manager Faces Trial for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Moroccan Workers in Spain

The manager of a farm located in Huelva, southern Spain, is being prosecuted for the alleged crimes of sexual abuse and harassment against four Moroccan seasonal workers in 2018. The prosecution has requested five and a half years in prison against him.

The events took place during the 2018 harvest campaign. According to the prosecution, the farm manager "abused his position" and took advantage of the "vulnerability" of these four Moroccan seasonal workers. The accused would sometimes invite himself into the residences of the latter and even stay there while they were taking a bath, reports Huelva24.

On several occasions, he also approached one of the victims, pretending to show her how to pick the fruits, and made sexual touches to her, the prosecution specifies in the indictment, adding that on another occasion, he entered the house of the seasonal workers and pointed to the bed with his hand, making gestures to express to the same seasonal worker his intention "to have sexual relations" with her.

The accused also behaved in the same way with the three other seasonal workers who denounced him. Arrested in 2018, he is being prosecuted for the alleged crime of sexual abuse for which the prosecutor is requesting one and a half years in prison and sexual harassment for which he risks four years in prison.

The prosecution also asks the judge to prohibit the accused from approaching the victims wherever they are, and from communicating with them by any means for two years. It also claims the payment to the victims of 3,000 euros for the moral damage caused by the crime of harassment and an additional 6,000 euros for the abuse suffered. The trial will open on February 25 at the Huelva court.
