Farewell to the old equipment: Less polluting trains to connect Fez to Oujda

The first two motors of this new fleet, numbered DO-701 and DO-702, have already left the manufacturer’s factories in Ziyang. They are currently awaiting shipment to the Kingdom.

These models use internal combustion engines running on liquid fuel. This railway technology offers better efficiency while being significantly less polluting than the old coal-based systems.

In parallel with the renewal of this rolling stock, a vast government project to modernize the infrastructure is underway. The long-awaited electrification of this vital corridor mobilizes a total investment estimated at 1.5 billion dirhams.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has confirmed that the operations to connect to the national electricity grid are actively continuing. Subject to the satisfactory progress of the work, this electrified line should be operational by mid-2026.
