Far-Right Vox Party Demands EU Curb Moroccan Agricultural Imports

Vox is once again attacking Moroccan agricultural exports to the European market. The Spanish far-right party calls for the protection of Spanish farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen.

In a press release quoted by the Spanish media Ceuta Al Dia, Vox has taken a critical look at Morocco’s agreements with the EU. According to the party, "free trade and cooperation of the European body favor the granting of funds to third countries to develop their agriculture". Vox criticizes the EU for having "authorized the entry of products not complying with [Spanish or European] regulations... sometimes exceeding the quotas established in the treaties themselves".

The political formation also denounces the multiplication by the EU of imports of agricultural products from third countries to Spain. "The import of watermelon has been multiplied by 9 over the last five years, 80% of which comes from Morocco and tomato imports from the African country have increased by 148% in a decade," the same source said.

"The free trade and cooperation or association agreements signed by the European Union have favored the arrival of European funds to third countries to develop their agriculture, while allowing the entry of products that do not comply with the regulations that oblige ours, sometimes exceeding the quotas established in the treaties themselves," denounces Vox again, insisting that "Spanish farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen are not protected".
