Fanatics Defy Lockdown, Force Open Mosque in Morocco; 3 Arrested

A group of fanatics in Jemaâ Shaim, in the Safi region, caught the security services off guard by forcing the opening of a mosque, in defiance of the containment measures issued by the Ministry of the Interior as part of the health emergency.
The incident took place on Monday, March 23, when a handful of individuals rushed towards a mosque in the city to perform group prayer, without taking into account the security instructions of the authorities.
It took the intervention of the Royal Gendarmerie services to disperse the crowd and arrest 3 people who were placed in custody, pending their appearance before the court.
It should be recalled that offenders of the state of emergency measures are liable to a prison sentence of 1 to 3 months and a fine of between 300 and 1,300 dirhams.
