Family Dispute Over Water Turns Violent in Rural Morocco

A young man was the victim of an assault with a hunting rifle on Saturday after arguing with his cousin, a man of about 50, over the irrigation of drinking water in Ain Cheggag, in the province of Sefrou.
The quinquagenarian fired on his young cousin with an air rifle, injuring him in the chest, according to sources on the Al3omk site, adding that the victim was taken to the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez.
Alerted, the local authorities and elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of the Ain Cheggag district managed to arrest the man who was placed in custody. An investigation has been opened, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance in Fez, to elucidate this case.
The owner of the hunting rifle does not have a permit, the same sources point out, indicating that the two protagonists had always behaved well in the village and had never had disputes before.
