Family Demands Answers in Fatal Shooting of Moroccan Man in Texas

A few days after the murder of Adil Dghoughi, a 31-year-old Moroccan, killed south of Austin, Texas, on October 11, his family says they have received very little information about the circumstances of his death and are demanding the truth.
Adil Dghoughi’s family went to College Station and then to Caldwell County last Monday to get more answers about the death of the young Moroccan. But their efforts have been unsuccessful. "We don’t know anything. [...] We just want the truth. That’s all we want. The truth and answers," Amy Fagnant, Adil Dghoughi’s estranged wife, told KXAN. She denounces an act of unnecessary violence against someone who would not harm anyone. "There’s no way he would hurt someone," Othmane, the victim’s brother, said.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on October 11. After exchanging a few words, an individual shot Adil Dghoughi, a 31-year-old Moroccan who was sitting in a car parked near his residence, in Martindale, a small town of less than 1,000 inhabitants located about 40 km southwest of Austin. Police officers who arrived at the scene transported the victim to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
After the shooting, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement to announce the "tragic incident." Law enforcement said the alleged killer "remained cooperative." As a result, local authorities decided not to arrest him for the shooting. In Texas, the law commonly known as the "stand your ground" law stipulates that an individual is legally authorized to use deadly force when he "reasonably believes" it is necessary to defend against harm.
