Moroccan Man Fatally Shot in Texas; Family Seeks Justice as Shooter Remains Uncharged

A 31-year-old Moroccan residing in Texas was coldly shot dead last Monday by an individual who is still not being prosecuted in court. Outraged, the deceased’s family is demanding justice.
The facts took place on October 11th around 3:30 am. After exchanging a few words, an individual shot Adil Dghoughi, a 31-year-old Moroccan who was sitting in a car parked near his residence, in Martindale, a small town of less than 1,000 inhabitants located about 40 km southwest of Austin. Police officers who arrived at the scene transported the victim to the hospital. He will succumb to his injuries.
After the shooting, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement to announce the "tragic incident". Law enforcement said the alleged killer "remained cooperative." Consequently, the local authorities decided not to arrest him for the shooting. In Texas, the law commonly called the "stand your ground" law stipulates that an individual is legally authorized to use deadly force when he "reasonably believes" it is necessary to defend against harm.
The reasons for this shooting are still unknown. Morocco World News (MWN) contacted the public information officer of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Kyle McConnell, to get more information. He stated that "all the information that can be disclosed has been disclosed," before adding that an "ongoing investigation." The consulate is awaiting the request for repatriation of the body of this young man who arrived in the United States in 2013 after obtaining his degree from the International Institute of Higher Education in Morocco.
Friends and family of the victim have launched an online fundraiser on GoFundMe to facilitate the repatriation of Adil Dghoughi’s body to Morocco. A few days after the murder, they are still in shock. "Adil was a registered organ donor and his generosity continues even after his departure to help others. No one has yet been charged for this horrible murder of an innocent man," denounced Yasmin Moayeri, the victim’s cousin. She demands justice for Adil.
