Families Demand Action for Moroccans Trapped in Syria and Iraq Conflict Zones

The National Coordination of Families of Moroccans Stranded in Syria and Iraq plans an action in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

"How long to wait... our children are in danger," chants the National Coordination of Families of Moroccans Stranded and Detained in Syria and Iraq. "More than a year ago, we took a stand in front of Parliament after the publication of the report of a parliamentary exploratory commission that investigated the situation of Moroccans in Syria and Iraq. We hoped that this would put an end to the suffering of Moroccans detained and stuck in tragic and dangerous conditions, and that a humanitarian solution would be found for their return," it states in a press release.

The Coordination deplores the fact that there has been no progress since then. Worse, the situation has even worsened, with the recent earthquake that hit the region and the lack of news of the children there, it notes, adding that they have proceeded to remove the children from their mothers inside the camps, sending them to detention centers and even to prison with adults of different nationalities and beliefs.

Based on these findings, the coordination is organizing a stand next Thursday at 10:30 a.m., in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat, in order to raise awareness about the issue of young Moroccans stranded and detained.
