Fallen Prodigy’s Redemption: Ihattaren’s Turbulent Journey Back to Football Glory

The tumultuous journey of the Dutch footballer of Moroccan origin Mohamed Ihattaren is the subject of a new documentary, entitled "Mo Ihattaren - The Trial", which will be broadcast on October 15 in the Netherlands.
The former great hope of Dutch football, now 23 years old, looks back on his descent into hell after the death of his father and confesses, in tears, to having made "huge mistakes".
After a promising start at PSV at just 16 years old and a transfer to Juventus in 2021, Ihattaren’s career has experienced a brutal setback. Absent from training, he was associated with the criminal milieu, saw his car set on fire and was arrested in 2022 for alleged threats against his ex-fiancée. In the documentary, he also reveals that he weighed up to 120 kilos.
After several difficult seasons, the player from Utrecht has started a comeback. Last season, he managed to relaunch himself at RKC Waalwijk, with 4 goals and 5 assists. Transferred this summer to Fortuna Sittard, he has had a good start to the season with already three goals in five games, including the winning goal last weekend against FC Utrecht.
The documentary, which also gives a voice to his former coach Mark van Bommel, aims to show his attempt to "regain the trust of his family and the world of football", according to the BNNVara channel. It will be broadcast on Wednesday, October 15 at 8:30 pm on the Dutch channel NPO 3.
