Expired Food Ring Uncovered in Casablanca Markets, Posing Health Risks

Food safety would be in danger in Casablanca. A well-organized gang would be behind the flow of unfit food products for consumption. Biscuits, candies, chips would be stored to then be poured into the rural markets of Casablanca.
All means are good to make money despite the health risks for consumers of expired products. The daily Assabah reports that in the outskirts of Casablanca, a gang specialized in the marketing of expired food products, would have set up its storage units.
According to the newspaper, spoiled and unfit food products (biscuits, candies, chips, etc.), to which new expiration dates are attributed in order to resell them later at lower prices than the market, are stored clandestinely. They are later sold in the Casablanca region, under a new expiration date.
The same source indicates that the members of this network are supplied by certain industrialists who want to get rid of these products after the expiration date. Sometimes, it is to intermediaries that the industrialists entrust the goods to avoid legal provisions.
The organized gang targets the weekly rural markets, as the latter are not subject to strict controls and the buyers do not pay attention to the expiration dates. Expired food products are also sold in some specialty stores selling cakes and dried fruits, in certain working-class neighborhoods, the newspaper specifies.
