Expired Alcohol Seized in Marrakech Restaurant Crackdown

Control operations carried out on September 8 and 9 in restaurants and warehouses made it possible to seize large quantities of smuggled or expired alcoholic beverages, and others that had escaped customs controls. These are measures relating to the violation of the state of health emergency, as well as the unauthorized sale of alcoholic beverages.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicated in a press release on Friday that these operations were carried out in perfect coordination with the customs and indirect tax services and the National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products. Their purpose is to verify the customs declaration of these products and determine if they meet health safety standards.
According to MAP, these checks resulted in the seizure of 34 expired bottles of champagne, 272 other bottles bearing suspicious customs stamps, as well as tens of thousands of bottles of alcohol unfit for consumption. And to top it all off, a large batch of suspicious tax stamps were seized.
Regarding the regulatory measures, they made it possible to reveal that many of these establishments are either operating illegally, or flouting the preventive measures provided for by the state of health emergency. Ten managers and employees in these premises and warehouses were subjected to preliminary investigations to determine the extent of their involvement in these offenses and the criminal acts committed, the same source said.
