Even Norway now buys more than half of its imported raspberries and blackberries from Morocco

Morocco became Norway’s leading supplier of fresh raspberries and blackberries during the 2025-2026 campaign. Its share of Norwegian imports of these two fruits exceeded 50% for the first time.

Between July 2025 and June 2026, Norwegian purchases from Morocco reached 707 tonnes, worth more than €9.3 million. The volume rose by 22% in one year and set a new record in agricultural trade between the two countries.

The increase is all the more significant because Norwegian imports of raspberries and blackberries declined overall during the same campaign. In five years, Moroccan volumes almost doubled, rising from around 400 tonnes to more than 700 tonnes.

The breakthrough observed in Norway extends a trend already visible elsewhere in Europe. In France, imports of Moroccan raspberries and blackberries reached a record level in 2025.

Morocco benefits from Portugal’s decline

The agricultural calendar works in favor of Moroccan producers. Their shipments to Norway are concentrated from October to May, when local production can no longer meet demand. Morocco thus occupies the market during the winter and until the approach of the Norwegian season.

May 2026 was decisive. Norway imported 216 tonnes of Moroccan raspberries and blackberries in a single month, more than double the volume recorded in May 2025.

At the same time, deliveries from Portugal, Morocco’s main competitor, fell by nearly 27%. The Kingdom ended the campaign 215 tonnes ahead of the Portuguese supplier. The Netherlands, Spain, Mexico and Poland remain present, but with significantly smaller volumes.

This success nevertheless came after a mixed campaign. In spring, quality problems in Morocco and Spain had contributed to a shortage of red berries in several European markets. Moroccan exporters nevertheless managed to significantly accelerate their deliveries to Norway at the end of the season.

The next challenge will be to retain this leading position during December and January, when Norway is particularly dependent on imports, and then to replicate the surge recorded in May. For Morocco, this small Nordic market is above all another example of its progress in high-value-added fresh agricultural products.
