European Hydrogen Network Excludes Algeria, Includes Morocco in Updated Plan

Algeria has not been included in the European hydrogen network, unlike an initial version unveiled a few months ago. Morocco, on the other hand, is part of the project.
The European Hydrogen Backbone (EHB) has updated its vision of the hydrogen transport network and infrastructure in Europe, reports El Periódico de la Energía. Surprisingly, no connection to Algeria via the Medgaz pipeline is planned in the new document, although it was initially considered to transport green hydrogen to the country by 2040.
The updated map confirms the intention to transfer this essential energy resource to Morocco, France and Italy. The planned hydroduct between Barcelona and Marseille, called H2Med, 792 kilometers long, is to be connected to Livorno in Italy, but not before 2040. On the other hand, the Franco-Spanish connection is anticipated for 2030.
The key change lies in the evolution of Medgaz, planned to transport green hydrogen in 2040. The pipeline to Morocco could pave the way for the export of Spanish, or even Moroccan, green hydrogen to the heart of Europe.
