Euphoria Star Dominic Fike Faces Backlash for Stereotypical Comments About Morocco

American actor and artist Dominic Fike, star of HBO’s Euphoria, is being criticized on social media for his "racist" and "orientalist" comments about Morocco and Africa.
"It’s actually very weird that they all have the camels and everything. Just like I imagined. We’re in Africa, aren’t we?" the American artist had said in an interview during the Yves Saint Laurent men’s fashion show that took place in the Agafay desert near Marrakech on July 15.
These "racist" comments sparked strong reactions from Moroccan internet users. "Africa is not a country. We have camels, but we have other things. Educate yourself!" wrote one internet user on Dominic Fike’s Instagram account. Fans come to the rescue of the interpreter of Politics & Violence. According to them, "the actor’s comments are only the result of a stereotypical image that Hollywood has instilled in the MENA region, depicting it as riddled with deserts and camels or torn apart by war." Faced with the controversy, the magazine WWD which had shared a video of the exchange had to remove it.
