Essaouira Welcomes First Tourists as Morocco Reopens Borders

Like Agadir and Marrakech, Essaouira welcomed a first group of tourists on Saturday after several months of border closures due to the coronavirus. Among them, many Moroccans residing abroad.
The arrival of this group of tourists was planned as part of the efforts put in place by the authorities to revive tourism and boost the Essaouira destination, which remains one of the most popular both internationally and nationally, reports La Map.
For the Acting Commander of Essaouira-Mogador International Airport, Mohammed Arhjoul, this resumption of tourism relieves professionals throughout the province. According to him, the reception took place in accordance with the precautionary devices and preventive measures enacted by the competent authorities.
The same sentiment is shared by the President of the Essaouira Provincial Tourism Council (CPTE) as well as professionals in the sector. According to Redwane Khanne, this first flight of tourists since last March is to the credit of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). It aims to energize and revive national tourism activity and the Moroccan destination, particularly that of Essaouira.
As for the tourists, it is a great honor to travel to Morocco and have chosen the city of Essaouira for their tourist stay after months of confinement and border closures. To support this tourism revival, the Irish low-cost airline has planned to increase its frequencies to Morocco. In this regard, since October 25th, 58 weekly flights have been created on 45 routes to France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
