Essaouira Man Files Official Complaint Over 10-Cent Taxi Overcharge

A man filed a complaint with the prefecture of the province of Essaouira, for having been overcharged one dirham by a taxi driver.
"On Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2:20 pm, I took taxi number 124 from Avenue Al Massira to the El Borj 1 neighborhood. Upon arrival, I gave 10 dirhams to the taxi driver who returned me two dirhams. Surprised, I asked him to return me an additional dirham, as the fare is 7 dirhams, but he replied that the price of diesel and oil had increased," explained the complainant, Abderahim B., in his complaint filed on Monday at the registry office of the prefecture of Essaouira.
The complainant adds that the taxi driver did not return the requested dirham, a behavior he considers a violation of "the law on prices and the rule of law." The action against this taxi driver was welcomed by Internet users. The complaint is "correct and appropriate," some commented on Facebook. Others took the opportunity to denounce the reprehensible acts committed by some taxi drivers in several cities of the kingdom.
The behavior of some taxi drivers in Morocco continues to arouse a lot of anger and discontent among the population. Recently, the police in Tangier arrested a taxi driver who assaulted a female customer. An act that sparked a wave of outraged and angry reactions.
