Escaped Serval Reunited with Owner After Two-Week Search in Tangier

The serval that had caused panic among the inhabitants of the Tangier region was finally found on Wednesday, after two weeks of intensive searches. The feline, which had disappeared, managed to rejoin its owner safely.
The serval was first spotted about two weeks ago near M’diq. Following reports, the National Water and Forests Agency (ANEF) launched a large-scale combing operation to capture the animal. In parallel, the owner of the serval offered a 10,000 dirham reward to anyone who would find it or bring it back to him.
The ANEF confirmed that the serval belongs to a medium-sized feline species native to South Africa. The owner, who had spent around 70,000 dirhams to acquire it, had all the necessary documents for its breeding, including its health record. The feline had been legally imported to Morocco.
The ANEF also reassured the population by specifying that the serval is an "endangered" species and does not pose any danger to humans. This rare type of animal mainly feeds on small prey such as rodents.
