Epstein Scandal: Luxury Property and Moroccan Heritage in Tangier

The name of the Strait city appears in the archives of the Epstein scandal. According to emails made public by the U.S. Department of Justice, the billionaire, who died in custody in 2019 while facing prosecution for sex trafficking, had actively explored Tangier’s real estate market well before his arrest.

Exchanges with an international broker reveal two main targets. Epstein had set his sights on “Villa Putman,” an iconic residence overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, designed by renowned French designer Andrée Putman. At the same time, he had shown interest in the former Italian consulate building, a historic edifice dating from the city’s international period. The latter property was considered a more affordable option, estimated at around 2.9 million euros, although it would have required a substantial renovation budget.

Although these documents attest to concrete steps and advanced negotiations in 2015, no official data confirms that a transaction was finalized. These revelations add a North African dimension to the map of Jeffrey Epstein’s activities, as his archives continue to expose his networks of influence and investment projects around the world.
