UN Envoy Clash: Morocco Calls for Kabyle Independence Amid Sahara Dispute with Algeria

In response to the remarks of his Algerian counterpart Nadir El Arabaoui on the Moroccan Sahara, Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, called on Algeria to decolonize the Kabyles.
"You are asking for self-determination, the decolonization of the Sahara and you forget to decolonize the Kabyles who are under Algerian occupation since Algeria became a state, since the birth of Algeria in 1962," retorted Omar Hilale to Nadir El Arabaoui. "Kabylia is an open-air prison, you refuse its population its most basic rights," added the Moroccan diplomat, also stating that the Sahara remains Moroccan.
"Whether you like it or not, the Sahara is Moroccan and will remain Moroccan until the end of time," he declared. "[...] Whether you like it or not, you have heard the dozens of countries that proclaim the Moroccanness of the Sahara, who proclaim their support for the political process, and who disagree with you."
