Eliesse Ben Seghir gives Monaco the victory against Strasbourg

AS Monaco snatched a precious victory against Strasbourg (1-3) this Saturday, during the 11th day of Ligue 1. Trailing after the opening goal by Guéla Doué (29th), the Monegasques were able to count on an Eliesse Ben Seghir in great form to turn the tide.
Scorer of a brace, Ben Seghir first equalized on a penalty (79th) before giving his team the advantage with an unstoppable shot (89th). George Ilenikhena then sealed the score in added time (90’+1), thus ensuring second place in the standings for ASM.
If Ben Seghir ultimately became the hero of the match, his start to the game was more complicated. As Maxifoot points out, he was "everywhere and nowhere for a long time", struggling to find his place on the pitch and making poor choices. He is even at fault on Doué’s goal, missing the ball on Moreira’s cross.
However, the young player showed character. After obtaining a penalty following a hand ball by Moreira, he converted it with composure, relaunching his team. Ouest France highlights this ability to gain momentum during the match and weigh on the opposing defense.
ASFMC also notes this "unusual wastefulness in possession" at the beginning of the game, but underlines the "great character" he showed to take and score the penalty. His second goal, at the conclusion of a quick attack, crowns this "arch of redemption".
